We start the New Year with the best intentions and the grandest of motivation with our quests for improved health, fitness and weight loss. Some people succeed, however a large majority of people do not. If you have managed to slip into your old ways then don't beat yourself up because January is the toughest time to start a new regime and additionally, there are your food addictions to consider.
Yes, we really do crave the foods to which we are sensitive and can cause us health and weight issues. Many foods in the western world such as wheat (gluten exorphins) and dairy (casomorphin peptides) contain huge amounts of opioid peptides (think opium and morphine) and they can act like a drug wherein we 'have to have them'. Wheat gluten contains a number of extremely powerful opioid peptides and some of these molecules are 100 times more powerful than a morphine-molecule - and you wonder why you feel tired in the afternoon following lunch?!
An important factor to take into consideration is to eat enough; and I mean of real food - think proper fuel! When your body is under-fueled and given processed, nutrient dense 'cardboard', it will start screaming all sorts of wacky things and get confused. How would your car run if you did not put fuel in it? Or put the wrong fuel in? See what I mean? For many people, the best way to defeat cravings is to simply eat a greater quantity of raw foods and essential fats, so ensure seeds, nuts, leafy greens and oily fish.
Every person is unique and special and should ultimately follow their personal food plan and regime. We all have different blood types, genes, and environments and we react to stress in alternative ways so it stands to reason, each individual should follow their own path. You know yourself better than anyone else so if you put up with symptoms such as Chronic Fatigue, IBS, Allergies or any other 'label' try to look at the cause rather than treat the symptoms.
The best way to be successful is to have support with a sensible, and sustainable food plan for your lifestyle and to personally suit you. Following a Health & Nutrition Screening you will know your body's likes and dislikes in ways you didn't know were possible - oh, and you may lose weight / fat too! Don't wait until the next New Year before committing to making changes and prioritising your health.
