Knowledge is power!! Ever heard that?
Several years ago, I sprinted through my life working in the City in a demanding dealing room environment and never stopped to think what damage I may be doing to my health. Until, yep you guessed it, things stopped working like they should do. The puffy excess weight, stress and fatigue were just part of the job, right? No! When your organs stop eliminating like they should do, trust me you do not feel well!
The Bupa specialist proposed cutting the knot out of my large intestine and sewing it back together in addition to removing my gall bladder. Scary! He also said to me “You have done this to yourself young lady and you can undo it!” I had my first health screening MOT on a BioMeridian system the same month and despite saying very little to the practitioner (to say I was skeptical is an understatement!) the system defined exactly what was wrong and what I needed to do to reverse the picture.
The change in my health and life spurred me on to study nutrition and become a trainer of the very systems that made the difference to my health, and still do, and the reason I do what I do!
Can we really blame 'Gluten'?
Absolutely!! One of the main culprits in my case was Gluten. Gluten is in fact two proteins (Gliadin and Glutein) found in all grains but specifically wheat, rye and barley and can cause Coeliac or Gluten sensitivity. Both conditions are inflammatory and therefore stressful to the body but are different.
Coeliac disease is where the body attacks its own tissues (auto immune) and in gluten sensitivity the body directly responds to the protein with an inflammatory response inside and outside the GI tract. In truth, most people even without gluten sensitivity have problems digesting the proteins as the processed wheat today is nothing like the wheat our ancestors ate. Gluten alone damages the entire gastrointestinal system from mouth to rectum, including the liver, gall bladder and pancreas. The clue is in the name ‘glue’.
Common intestinal symptoms are bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, reflux, IBS and nutrient malabsorption. Other symptoms may include migraine headaches, depression, unrelenting fatigue, skin rashes, joint pain and the list goes on! I am 'symptom' free today and have been for years now, with no 'IBS' or medication and I eat real food! Try going gluten free for a month and see how you feel!
Additionally, with many of my clients we need to look into other environmental and food sensitivities such as diary, mold or water contaminants (big with tap water drinkers!). Any toxins and / or allergens entering your body can perpetuate an inflammatory and stressful state.
